Can you believe it? Indiana Sports Charities is going into our 20th year! It all started in January of 1989, my son Dylan was born and I was in the middle of maybe having my best year for the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately, due to a collision, my season ended with a back injury and a hard bed in a hospital. I believe that things happen for a reason and maybe my reason then was to start thinking about giving back for all the wonderful things that had happened to me. And so, ISC was launched.
Over the past two decades, we have had some memorable outings but as I always say, “If we raise $50.00 and bring awareness to someone about our mission, we did AWESOME!!!!!” We have seen first hand many families who never thought they would support any charity find themselves throwing all of their energy into our fight as a result of a family member, friend, co-worker or acquaintance being affected by cancer…they want to join in our fight. Indiana Sports Charities will be looking to close in on that $2 million mark in June, 2009 with the 20th Annual Indiana Sports Charity Celebrity Golf Outing. The event will again be held at Briar Ridge Country Club in Schererville, Indiana. It’s a great day of golfing with friends new and old, wonderful food and great prizes on and off the course. Our committee has worked hard to continue making this a premier event in the Midwest. If you would like more information about Indiana Sports Charities, please call me or send an e-mail and I can help you get started along side in our fight. There are many areas that we could use your help: become a sponsor, be a golfer or join the volunteer team. Just think, you could be helping out in finding a cure for cancer one day! We promise to make sure that every dollar raised supports our donor hospitals. Beneficiaries include: The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony’s Medical Center and The Munster Education Foundation. To those who have helped in the past, a huge Thank You for your support and everything you have done to make sure Indiana Sports Charities stays on our mission to find a cure for cancer one day. All My Best,
